IT is not for geeks
On friday 29th September we had a talk titled 'IT is not for geeks'. Marie and aidan gave us a talk in the halla nua for an hour. The two speakers came from dell and they talked to us about how there was so much more to IT related careers than we had initially thought. They explained what their jobs entailed. I am definitely more open to a job in the IT field after the talk.
Martial Arts
On Monday and Tuesday our whole year had a martial arts course. I was looking forward to this course as it looked fun and the older years said it was a good couple of days. The first day we went into the halls nua for an introduction to the course. The teacher showed us attacks from cctv footage and he taught us about the psychological side of self defence such as body language. We looked at statistics from attacks and we were told what we would be doing in the course. After break we headed down to the sports hall to begin learning fighting techniques. We learnt many different types of strikes such as elbows, knees, kicks and punches. We practised these strikes on pads held by our classmates. We also learnt combos, counter attacks, ground fighting, weapon defence and take downs. I especially liked the weapon defence. On the whole I really enjoyed the course. It was great fun and I feel like it could be useful in a life or death situation.
Nutrition Talk
On Tuesday our year received a talk from a qualified nutritionist. She to,d us about the link between nutrition and well being, hence being a good fit for our well being week. She showed us the different foods we needed in our diet to stay healthy. I enjoyed the talk as it was very interesting and useful.
